【Popular Hong Kong-Style Beverages Are So Sweet】

As we are so much more aware of the sugar intake, we certainly have control with the amount of sugar added to hot drinks, while it has become more like a habit to order iced drinks with less or even no added sugar. However, we have often overlooked the original sugar content that is presented in the beverage, especially in instant beverages such as watercress honey and lemon honey. The sugar content may already exceed your imagination before adding additional sugar.

According to the guidelines of the Center for Food Safety, based on the criterion of “low sugar”, there should be no more than 5g of sugar per 100ml of beverage. The sugar content of almost all popular Hong Kong-style drinks cannot be overlooked, about 22% less sugar content than regular formulas on average.

💡Friendly Reminder

We often told to avoid iced drinks, the reason behind is that the high sugar content does not conducive to the body's absorption and maintenance of body water, potentially leading to water loss, disrupt metabolism and skin condition.
