【咖啡是通便神器?】- 營養生Negimen

【Coffee is a poop booster?】Most people can’t live without their cup of coffee. A cup of coffee a day does not only act as a great energy booster, it’s also a poop booster to some people. Why does coffee bring you the urge to poop?

There are studies which show that coffee is a rich source of caffeine, which can make your colon intestinal muscles more active. This helps your body push food quickly to the rectum, and that brings you the urge to poop. In fact, one study found that ⅓ of participants needed to use the bathroom within twenty minutes after drinking a cup of coffee.

However, there are other studies showing that non caffeinated coffee can also stimulate your colon intestinal muscles and give you the urge to poop. There are other compounds in coffee, such as chlorogenic acids and N-alkanoyl-5-hydroxytryptamides, that may stimulate bowel activity. Therefore, it explains the reason why other caffeinated drinks such as tea and soft drinks do not bring you to the urge to poop.

Moreover, relying on coffee for the urge to poop in the long term, eventually will decrease the activeness of the intestine, resulting in constipation when you don’t drink coffee.

Friendly reminder: A better solution to improve constipation is to increase the intake of foods that are rich in dietary fibers. As dietary fibers can increase the size of the faeces and stimulates the intestinal muscles, which makes you easier to poop.
